Blackbird Singing in the Dead of Night

Mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell. They provide the cell with bioenergetics, but also make waste in the form of oxidative stress. Here, the mitochondria in cancer cells were labeled with a fluorescent protein to identify activity of the waste elimination process (antioxidation). This cell was starved and switched its mitochondria to become elongated. 

The result provides insight on how oxidative stress is managed by different cellular compartments using cell culture model of obesity. 

I find this image symbolizes how a cell adapts and perseveres in a challenging environment, mirroring the resilience and creativity of a scientist.
