This is a laboratory jellyfish, Clytia hemisphaerica,  capable of amazing regenerative feats using a population of dividing stem cells located in distinct parts of the animal. The ultimate goal of our research project is to study how certain animals are capable of regeneration while others are not. We hope to learn how the jellyfish is capable of remaking damaged nervous systems to identify broadly applicable principles that can be someday applied to regenerative medicine.
