The Chung lab combined engineered viruses, tissue engineering, and machine learning algorithms to map connections between the brain’s adrenaline center and memory formation center. Researchers revealed an unexpectedly vast network emanating from the brain's relatively small adrenaline center, with far more extensive connections to other regions than previously imagined.

Since the adrenaline center shows some of the first symptoms of Alzheimer's disease, this work could potentially help explain which neuronal circuits are more vulnerable to degeneration and lead to early detection and treatment of the disease.
