This images is of an entire quadriceps muscle section that was sectioned at the Koch Institute histology core. Type I (White) and Type IIA (Green) myosin antibodies were used to stain those three types of muscle fibers and Type IIX consists of the unstained muscle fibers in the section. Muscle membranes are stained with a Laminin antibody in red and nuclei are stained with DAPI in blue. Viewers should notice the fascinating architecture of skeletal muscle, and the distribution of different muscle fiber groups throughout the muscle. One can notice that Type I and Type IIA muscle fibers are more abundant on the outside of the muscle section whereas the interior of the muscle likely contains the fast-twitch muscle fibers not stained in this section.
