This image shows the space between two motor neuron spheroids (visible as the black regions along the periphery). In between lies a dense network of neurons (red/pink) and glial cells (blue). The spheroids were cultured on a thin hydrogel substrate to create an ideal, physiologically representative microenvironment that enables real-time monitoring of neuronal growth and development.
In this image, the intricate interplay between neurons and glial cells is clearly visible. Astrocytes can be seen surrounding the neuronal bodies, providing both mechanical and metabolic support.
