Autologous blood therapies, such as the delivery of platelets and platelet rich plasma, are of increasing interest for wound healing, but are short acting and currently require repeat clinic visits. Here, we aim to develop a microneedle patch for the sustained delivery of preserved autologous platelet-based therapies for the treatment of chronic wounds. Biocompatible and bioresorbable, these hydrogel microneedles can deliver platelet-based therapies for approximately one week and can retain their ECM-mimicking properties for longer as they biodegrade.
