This shows a mediastinal lymph node 40 days after influenza infection. Memory T cells (cyan) were once thought to reside exclusively within T cell zones (yellow), but here they are seen distributed throughout the node, extending well beyond these classical regions. These memory T cells lie in close proximity to B cells (blue) and antibody-secreting cells (red), suggesting opportunities for cross-talk between cellular and humoral immunity. They are also found adjacent to blood vessels (orange) and lymphatic vessels (green), as well as near the lymph node border marked by specialized macrophages (magenta). This broader spatial distribution highlights the dynamic positioning of memory T cells that enables rapid immune protection throughout the lymph node.
