There are many devastating brain diseases that have limited treatment options available due to the inability of drugs to navigate the ‘space’ of the brain - namely, the ability to travel from your blood vessels and to-and-through your brain. To develop new ways to deliver drugs so that they can make this journey, I have created a mini brain-on-a-chip system imaged here where we can test different promising compounds in a way that is patient-relevant and without having to sacrifice an animal.
