This image depicts the changing architecture of a pancreas upon tumor development. We can see immune cells (brown) at the periphery of the growing tumor, revealing their role in responding to tumor development in the pancreas.
We are trying to learn about how the interactions between stromal cells and cancer cells can promote tumor growth by creating a highly inflamed environment. We are investigating tumor-stroma interactions in Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma (PDAC), a highly lethal cancer type. We are particularly focused on interactions between myeloid cells highlighted above, fibroblasts, and tumor cells.
We can visualize the transforming pancreatic tissue architecture and an intense macrophage cell infiltrate in response to pancreatic tumor development.
