"These HIV nanoparticle vaccines were designed to mimic actual HIV virions. We took the image as part of our lab’s project to design and construct an efficacious HIV vaccine. By taking this image we were trying to visualize and characterize the actual vaccine. Visualizing the vaccine allows us to ascertain the efficiency of attachment of the HIV protein to our nanoparticle."
