Our brains are built from billions of cells called neurons, which communicate by forming extensive networks.
This image shows human neurons grown in the lab, branching as they connect with one another. Researchers in the Feng lab use these living networks to test new ways of fixing genetic mistakes linked to Rett syndrome, a brain development disorder. By watching how neurons respond, researchers can make sure these fixes work precisely, changing only what’s needed to keep future treatments safe.
