This image shows how a sensory nerve (red and green) makes a connection with a motor end plate (cyan) forming a neuromuscular junction. This is not the typical nerve-muscle connection that makes your brain controls your muscles, this is a nerve-muscle connection that powers a myoneural actuator designed for biohybrid systems. This project has the goal of creating a biointegrable tissue construct capable of fatigue-resistant continuous organ actuation under computer control.
