We took this image of the fish surface to better understand how material structure plays a role when placing medical devices across hydrogels or simulated human tissue for intimate contact.
The purpose of this research is to develop a universal device system as a drug and/or sensor loading platform for drug delivery and health monitoring in the gastrointestinal tract.
Hitchhiking to a gourami fish is tough: gourami fish develop water tunnel structures at the center of their scales, which may function as biological sensors for detecting flow direction and hydrodynamic drag; intimate contact in this situation requires conformal locking with these bumpy and hollow structures
