The formation of fibrotic tissue at the interface between implanted medical devices and the target tissue is a longstanding problem that routinely causes failure of the device. Our soft adhesive materials provide a promising strategy for long-term anti-fibrotic implant–tissue interfaces and offers valuable insights into implant–tissue interactions for medical implants studies.
Here we see soft adhesive materials implanted on the surface of tissues in vivo that do not form any observable fibrosis capsule at the implant interface; meaning that they work as invisible materials that do not become recognized by the immune system.
