Microglia is a brain cell capable of organizing a potent inflammatory response. This picture shows the computer-traced contours of human microglia in the mouse brain, 2 months after injection, after we injected the mice with a molecule causing inflammation in the brain. We took this picture to evaluate how differently Parkinson and control microglia responded to an inflammatory challenge, by looking at their morphology. We are studying the effects of a familial Parkinson’s disease mutation on human microglia grown into the mouse brain, in presence or absence of inflammatory challenge.
