The laboratory specializes in growing gastrointestinal stem cells, and organoids are a new model to study their behavior outside of the body. We took these images in general to identify their growth characteristics and overall morphology. By growing the organoids, we can study the effects of drugs, cytokines or nutrients on their function. In particular we are excited to test chemotherapeutic responses on the organoids to provide individualized patient testing for cancer treatment. The image shows the myriad types of organoids we can grow.
