We are investigating the optimize structure and properties of polymeric scaffolds for tissue engineering applications. Layering of polymers on a patterned surface generates functional microstructures conducive to cell growth and proliferation. The images illustrated here show the synergistic use phase inversion process of polymers with micro patterning.
Our goal was to understand the mechanism of cell adhesion on rigid and flexible substrates through with novel substrate/surface design and fabrication. Studying cell proliferation and growth behavior as a function of surface texture is an exciting new field of research with potential application in cancer and tissue engineering - not only for the proliferative behavior of cells, but also differentiation and de-differentiation behavior of stem cells depends on the surfaces where the cells would grow.
