Degradation and release from polymer–lipid microcapsules. Over time, the polymer shell develops pores and ruptures, leading to the controlled release of encapsulated fluorescent (red) mRNA–LNP.  By understanding these relationships, we aim to design depots that can maintain mRNA integrity and release functional cargo over weeks or months, enabling durable immune protection from a single dose.
