Fold Play: A Fruit Fly Embryo’s Morphogenic Masterpiece

This image depicts a young fruit fly embryo folding inward along its ventral (stomach) side. This process, known as gastrulation, is fundamental across animal development. By studying how molecular and mechanical forces coordinate together to form structures, the Martin lab seeks to gain insight into the biochemistry and physics behind tissue development across all organisms, including human development.
