Self Portrait in Blood

Self Portrait in Blood

Sunanda Sharma

In this image, you can see smears of human blood on a glass slide. However, the magnification is low enough that you can see a bigger picture, rather than the individual cells, and evidence of the time-dependent drying process that generated the specific texture, color, and pattern. This image is part of a self-portrait series. As a science student, I am used to ordering samples from ATCC or other sources, without a clear knowledge of the process of their collection and selection. Here, by contrast, I sourced the sample from my own hand. I am curious about and attempting to capture the change of the quality and appearance of it over time as it is exposed to the open air.
