"Leachable poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) microbeads were used to create an ordered, porous scaffold comprising speherical “void chambers” connected by pores by photopolymerizing a PEG-dimethacrylate (for tunable stiffness) and PEG-methacrylate (for functionality) polymer solution around the beads and then dissolving the beads in tetrahydrofuran. To study the effect of pore diameter on cell migration, cells were seeded into the void chambers (shown by white circles in the SEM) and were allowed to move between void chambers through the pores, where the PMMA beads were initially in contact (shown by small black circles in the SEM)."
