"Insulin producing pancreatic islet cells (Blue) are encapsulated in small packages of alginate capsules (Green) for transplantation in diabetic animal models. These packages prevent any immune response from the host as their antibodies cannot recognize the healthy pancreas hidden beneath the capsule and insulin a key hormone for glucose metabolism can slowly release from the capsule. This is a top 3D view of these capsules which show excellent encapsulation and have shown high efficiency in curing mice with diabetes."
